  • the random things of life

Whether you wanted to or not... I got tagged to share sixteen random or little-known facts about me. So if you *don't* wanna know, stop reading now.

    1. I like Greek salad and feta cheese, but not olives of any kind.
    2. Before the age of 16, the longest amount of time we lived in one place was 3 years.
    3. My dream at age 9 was to be a paratrooper... and I'm still afraid of heights!
    4. I could count to 5 in 6 languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Mongolian) but my Mongolian is a little rusty.
    5. I love the smell of Lebanon bologna (among other things!).
    6. There is a twelve-year age gap between me and my youngest sibling.
    7. I live in the South, but love cold weather, which pretty much never happens here! Go figure. =P
    8. The last book I read was The Day After He Left for Iraq, by Melissa Seligman. Beautifully written, honest look @ what deployment feels like to those left behind. Yes, I'm still an Army brat... and grateful that we never had to deal with a separation like that.
    9. All of our dogs (that I remember) have been scared of thunderstorms. The current one loves blankets and pillows to lay on, lettuce, carrots, apples, and popcorn!
    10. I love snowmen. Is this a symptom of winter withdrawal?
    11. My three favorite scrapbookers are Ali Edwards, Stacy Julian, and Cathy Zielske.
    12. I love photography, and want a DSLR really really bad! Definitely on the list for this year...
    13. I am good at biting off more than I can chew. =P
    14. Around 6th grade, Mom decided I no longer needed spelling lessons, I was proficient enough already.
    15. I love creative stuff, and pretty much everything crafty, but I don't knit (very well, at least).
    16. I lived in Germany for six years, and would go back in a heartbeat!!!!

So there. It's done. Actually, it was harder than I thought it would be... but not bad, either. If you feel inspired to create your own list, go for it!

  • 2009

I love this concept of starting the new year with a word to focus on... so much so, that I think I have inadvertently picked one @ both my birthday and New Year's, so I actually end up with two in a year! This year I ended up with a phrase, instead of just one word. For 2009, my focus is on learning to live with grace. I look forward to seeing what that will look like!

    gratefully

joyful happenings of the day included:

lots of bustle in the kitchen, of course
the necessary run to the grocery store for forgotten items
perfecting the family recipe for mushroom gravy (and learning, that really, everybody does it their own way after all!)
discovering that I *have* actually been to France
a house full of dear friends
lingering at the table and enjoying fellowship
    adorable chatter from a bitty-girl
    games, laughter, music
happily contemplating the Christmas shopping list, and wearing Christmas socks
wanting to cut paper snowflakes and do all sorts of crafty things
    quiet contemplation
peace, knowing that He is in control, and loves me so much more than I will ever comprehend

Happy Thanks-giving! May I take time to notice the little and big benefits He daily loads me with, so that the celebration lasts all year.
